Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia

Promoting the interests of the livestock and livestock products industry of Namibia in Namibia and elsewhere

The Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPB) is a statutory body established to promote, regulate and develop Namibia’s livestock and livestock products industry. Formerly known as the Meat Board of Namibia, the Board has expanded its mandate to include dairy and poultry products, reflecting the broader scope of the livestock sector.

The primary objective of the Board is to safeguard and advance the interests of the livestock and livestock products industry both locally and in international markets. It plays a central role in ensuring that Namibian livestock products meet high standards of quality, safety and traceability.

The LLPB is responsible for the grading, classification and standardisation of meat and other livestock products. Through its Meat Standards Division, it sets and enforces quality benchmarks that protect consumers and enhance the reputation of Namibian products in export markets.

In addition to regulation, the Board facilitates trade by managing import and export controls, issuing permits and imposing levies that support industry development and compliance. These functions help maintain orderly marketing and fair competition within the sector.

The Board also supports the growth and sustainability of the livestock industry by providing strategic guidance, market information and technical services to producers, processors and traders. Its work contributes significantly to food security, rural development and Namibia’s position as a reliable supplier of high-quality livestock products.

As the official regulatory authority for livestock and livestock products, the LLPB works closely with government, industry stakeholders and international partners to strengthen the value chain and ensure that Namibia’s livestock sector remains competitive, compliant and economically viable.
