Walvis Bay Corridor Group
The Walvis Bay Corridor Group (WBCG) is a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) established in 2000 to promote the development and utilisation of the Walvis Bay Corridors. It serves as a key facilitator for increasing cargo volumes through the Port of Walvis Bay (and Lüderitz) while supporting regional trade and logistics integration across Southern Africa.
WBCG coordinates and markets four major transport corridors: the Trans-Kalahari Corridor, the Walvis Bay–Ndola–Lubumbashi Development Corridor, the Trans-Cunene Corridor, and the Trans-Oranje Corridor. These routes connect Namibia to landlocked countries such as Botswana, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and the Democratic Republic of Congo, positioning Walvis Bay as a competitive gateway to global markets.
The organisation focuses on business development, trade facilitation, stakeholder coordination, and advocacy for infrastructure improvements. By bringing together public and private sector players, WBCG works to reduce transit times, lower the cost of doing business, and create integrated logistics solutions that benefit importers, exporters, and transport operators.
WBCG plays an important role in supporting Namibia’s ambition to become a regional logistics hub. It actively promotes the corridors to regional and international markets, facilitates partnerships, and supports initiatives that enhance supply chain efficiency and competitiveness under frameworks such as SADC and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
In addition to corridor promotion, WBCG undertakes special projects such as the Namibia Logistics Hub initiative and wellness programmes for transport workers. These efforts aim to strengthen the overall logistics ecosystem and improve the welfare of those operating along the corridors.
With more than two decades of experience, the Walvis Bay Corridor Group remains a central institution in Namibia’s trade and logistics landscape. It continues to drive collaborative efforts that enhance connectivity, attract investment, and support sustainable economic growth through efficient and reliable transport corridors.
