Gendev Fishing Group
Gendev Fishing Group (Pty) Ltd is a Namibian land-based fishing and processing company based in Walvis Bay. Founded in the 1950s, it is one of the country’s longer-established operators in the fishing industry and describes itself as Namibia’s first dedicated onshore horse mackerel processing facility.
The company operates an EU- and HACCP-certified processing factory on the seafront. It specialises in the shore-based processing of horse mackerel (Trachurus capensis) and hake, focusing on value-added products rather than purely sea-frozen catches.
Gendev is a market leader in Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) horse mackerel packed in 1 kg bags. It supplies products under its own Gendev brand (notably to major retailers such as Shoprite and Metro) as well as the Namibia Fish brand to other retailers.
The company emphasises quality assurance, compliance with local and international standards, and sustainable utilisation of resources. Shore processing allows it to innovate and increase the value of the catch through different product formats and packaging.
Gendev reports high Namibian ownership (around 94–95% in company materials) and employs several hundred people across its sea and shore operations. It also runs a factory fish shop that serves the local community with a range of seafood products.
Located at 98 Ben Amathila Avenue in Walvis Bay, Gendev continues to position itself as a locally rooted processor committed to quality products, employment creation, and environmental responsibility in Namibia’s fishing sector.
