Erongo RED

Power to the people

Erongo RED (Erongo Regional Electricity Distributor) is the electricity distribution and supply company for the Erongo Region of Namibia. It began trading on 1 July 2005 after being established under the government’s electricity sector reform programme.

The company was formed by consolidating the electricity distribution functions previously handled by the municipalities of Walvis Bay, Swakopmund, Henties Bay and Omaruru, the town councils of Karibib, Usakos and Arandis, the Erongo Regional Council, and NamPower.

Erongo RED purchases bulk electricity from NamPower and distributes it to residential, commercial, industrial and rural customers across the region. It accounts for a significant share of Namibia’s total electricity consumption (around 15% in company descriptions).

Over the years the distributor has grown substantially, expanding its customer base, improving electrification rates in the region, and generating annual revenue well over N$1 billion. It has invested in network upgrades, customer service channels, and digital tools including a mobile app.

The company operates under licences issued by the Electricity Control Board and focuses on reliable supply, competitive tariffs, debt management, and community electrification projects. It also promotes safe and efficient electricity use.

Headquartered in Walvis Bay, Erongo RED maintains customer service and technical offices in major centres across the Erongo Region and continues to position itself as a key driver of economic and social development through reliable power distribution.
