Tunacor Group

Tunacor Group, operating primarily as Tunacor Fisheries Limited, is a major Namibian fishing company based in Walvis Bay. It was founded in 1958 as a pilchard cannery and fishmeal facility and has evolved into one of the country’s leading deep-sea fishing and value-added seafood processors.

In 2014 the company became 100% Namibian-owned after Spanish shareholders exited, marking a significant milestone in local ownership of the fishing industry. It is widely regarded as a flagship Namibian fishing enterprise focused on sustainable harvesting and onshore value addition.

Tunacor operates one of Namibia’s largest fishing fleets, consisting of multiple wet-fish and freezer trawlers as well as longliners. The company specialises in high-quality frozen products, particularly hake, monkfish, horse mackerel, squid and related species, supplying both local and international markets.

The group emphasises value-added processing and has invested significantly in modern factories, including a large horse mackerel processing facility. It employs more than 2,000 people and is one of the largest employers in Namibia’s fishing sector.

Tunacor positions itself as a fully Namibian, internationally competitive, and socially responsible company. Its production facilities undergo independent third-party food safety audits, supporting exports of premium seafood products.

Headquartered on Ben Amathila Avenue in Walvis Bay, the company continues to expand its processing capacity and fleet operations while remaining focused on sustainable utilisation of Namibia’s marine resources.
