The Project Room
The Project Room is an independent contemporary art gallery in Windhoek established in 2016 by jewellery designer and artist Frieda Lühl. It was created to provide an intimate platform where Namibian artists could exhibit work, gain exposure, and connect with others in the field.
The gallery hosts regular exhibitions featuring diverse media including painting, printmaking, photography, ceramics, jewellery, and performance. It supports both emerging and established artists through curation, mentoring, exhibition development, and connections to buyers, collectors, and institutions.
In 2022 Laschandré Coetzee joined as a partner, bringing experience in design thinking and curation. The gallery has curated dozens of exhibitions, worked with numerous local artists, and expanded into corporate collection projects with banks and other organisations.
The Project Room participates in regional art fairs such as Latitudes and the FNB Joburg Art Fair to increase visibility for Namibian artists beyond the local market. It has also maintained a retail presence associated with the Namibia Craft Centre and collaborates with cultural institutions.
The physical space has relocated over time and is currently at 5 Crohn Street in central Windhoek, near other arts venues including the National Art Gallery of Namibia. Activities include artist walkabouts, workshops, and group projects alongside the exhibition programme.
The gallery focuses on celebrating and documenting Namibian art and artists while aiming to contribute to their livelihoods and amplify local creative voices through both physical shows and digital presence.
