Ministry of Information and Communication Technology

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) is the government institution responsible for the development and regulation of Namibia’s information, communication, and technology sectors. It oversees Information Technology, Telecommunications, Broadcasting, Media, and Postal services.

MICT plays a central role in driving digital transformation in Namibia. It formulates policies and strategies to expand access to information and communication technologies, improve government service delivery through e-government initiatives, and promote digital literacy across the country.

The Ministry is responsible for ensuring the availability of reliable and affordable communication infrastructure. It works with regulators such as the Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) to create an enabling environment for the ICT sector while protecting consumer interests.

MICT manages government communication and public information dissemination. It coordinates the Government Information Centre and supports ministries and agencies in sharing official information with the public through various media platforms.

The Ministry also promotes the development of local content, supports the growth of the creative industries (including broadcasting and media), and works to bridge the digital divide between urban and rural areas through targeted programmes and infrastructure development.

Through its focus on ICT development, digital governance, and access to information, the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology contributes significantly to Namibia’s modernisation, transparency, and competitiveness in the digital age.
