NORED

NORED (Northern Regional Electricity Distributor) is Namibia’s first regional electricity distribution company. It was incorporated in 2001 and began operations as the pioneering RED under the country’s electricity sector restructuring programme.

The company is responsible for the distribution and supply of electricity across a large part of northern Namibia. Its licence area covers eight regions: Kunene, Omusati, Oshana, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Kavango East, Kavango West and Zambezi.

NORED serves a wide range of customers, from households and small businesses to larger commercial and industrial users, across both urban centres and extensive rural areas. It focuses on reliable supply, network maintenance, new connections and customer service.

The distributor purchases bulk power from NamPower and delivers it through its medium- and low-voltage networks. It operates under the regulatory oversight of the Electricity Control Board and works with local authorities and regional councils as key stakeholders.

NORED emphasises service excellence, safety awareness (including community and school education programmes), and sustainable electricity access to support socio-economic development in the north. Its vision centres on uplifting living standards and driving economic growth in the regions it serves.

Headquartered in Ondangwa (Main Road, Ondangwa–Ongwediva area), NORED maintains regional service centres and a customer reporting system to handle faults, billing and general enquiries across its extensive northern operating area.
