The Namibia Trade Forum (NTF) is a government agency under the Ministry of International Relations and Trade (or Ministry of Industrialisation and Trade) mandated to institutionalise public-private dialogue on trade and investment policies. It serves as the primary platform for ensuring that the views of the private sector are incorporated into the formulation of Namibia’s trade policies and positions in regional and international negotiations.

NTF facilitates structured engagement between government and the business community through the National Consultation Mechanism. This mechanism allows stakeholders to discuss trade barriers, market access issues, rules of origin, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, and other policy matters affecting Namibia’s competitiveness.

The Forum plays a key role in supporting Namibia’s participation in various trade agreements, including those under the Southern African Customs Union (SACU), Southern African Development Community (SADC), and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA). It helps coordinate national positions and ensures that private sector interests are reflected in negotiations and implementation strategies.

In addition to policy dialogue, NTF supports trade development by raising awareness among businesses about trade opportunities, building capacity to leverage existing agreements, and addressing practical challenges faced by exporters and importers. It works to improve the flow of market intelligence and research that informs both policy and business decision-making.

The organisation also engages in stakeholder coordination, workshops, seminars, and consultations to strengthen the link between trade policy and industrial development. By doing so, it contributes to Namibia’s broader goals of economic diversification, industrialisation, and increased participation in regional and global value chains.

As a bridge between the public and private sectors, the Namibia Trade Forum remains central to efforts aimed at creating a more enabling trade environment. It supports evidence-based policy making while helping Namibian businesses navigate and benefit from international trade opportunities.
