Dundee invests approximately N$25 million on brand new heavy-duty equipment
Barloworld Equipment Namibia officially handed over heavy-duty equipment to an approximate value of N$25 million to Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb on Tuesday, 18th February 2020.
The equipment was comprised of three (3) 730 articulated dump trucks, two (2) 950GC wheel loaders, one (1) 320 next-generation hydraulic excavator and one (1) 426F2 backhoe loader. The heavy-duty equipment will be used for material movement at Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Barcelona Tsauses, Director of Operations at Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb highlighted the role that the equipment will play in ensuring optimal material movement at the Tsumeb smelter.
Elia Nandjiwa, Barloworld Equipment Namibia Country Manager & Director expressed his gratitude to Dundee for their investment. “It is with great pleasure that Barloworld Equipment is entrusted to supply the Company with a fleet of machines. Together as a team, we are ready to offer our utmost support to Dundee in reaching the company’s business objectives. About Dundee Precious Metals
Dundee Precious Metals Tsumeb (Pty) Limited (DPMT), is located in Tsumeb, Namibia approximately 430 km north of the capital city of Windhoek. Tsumeb is the closest town to the Etosha National Park and has a population of 45,000 people. Walvis Bay in Namibia.
The smelter was constructed in 1963 and is one of only a few in the world that can treat complex copper concentrates. Blister copper and Sulphuric acid are products produced at the Tsumeb smelter.
Sulphuric acid is a critical component in the mining industry particularly for uranium and copper production businesses. Thus, the smelter can take a by-product of copper and turn it into something of value for Namibia.
The smelter produces 98.5% pure copper blisters and with its ability to treat complex copper concentrates is transitioning from a captive smelter, receiving mainly Dundee concentrates into a toll treatment facility with brown-fields expansion potential.
Dundee is one of the largest employer in the Oshikoto region with a workforce of over 700 employees.
