WHAT THE LLPB HAS DONE

Most Distinguished Order awarded to board member

The Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia (LLPBN) congratulates Annascy Mwanyangap, a board member, for receiving the Most Distinguished Order of Namibia award for her dedication towards social-economic development in Namibia. His Excellency Dr Nangolo Mbumba, president of Namibia, presented her with the award.

Namibian Meat Route gets miles

The Namibian Meat Route was set up in 2022 to inform tourists about where to purchase quality meat and meat products. Traders along Namibia’s most popular routes take part in the scheme which includes a route map with names, contact details and GPS coordinates. The LLPBN recently used an advertising board outside Grünau for marketing the Meat Route. There is also a reference to the website and Facebook page where more information can be obtained. Participation in the scheme is free and aims to boost local traders and producers. Maps are available from merchants and fuel stations, as well as border posts. Please visit the website www.meat-route.com as well as the Meat Route Facebook.

Meat Route video on DStv channel 412: A Meat Route video will be shown five times on Tuesdays in October 2024 on DStv’s agricultural channel 412. The Meat Route was created by the LLPBN to highlight the finest meat in the country and direct people to the best stores along popular routes.

EU deforestation regulation ready for implementation

The European Union (EU) intends to implement deforestation regulations on 1 January 2025. These regulations apply to all EU member states as well as any country that trades with the EU in any of the six identified products such as beef, charcoal, hides and skins and leather. Proof will be required to show that production of commodities has not contributed to deforestation, that all local legislation has been complied with and that the exporter has verified that all products comply with EU regulations. The LLPBN in collaboration with exporting abattoirs will inform the industry about the correct documentation to be completed and submitted. The LLPBN is already in the process of determining the demarcation (“geolocation”) of all involved producers to the EU market, which is a requirement of the regulation.

FAN Meat annual farm inspections kick-off

The FAN Meat division of the LLPBN will kick off its annual farm inspections next week. These inspections are done to ensure that producers meet the required FAN Meat standards. Along with producers, transporters of livestock, auction agents, feedlots and export abattoirs are also inspected. These standards are used as a marketing tool to assure Namibian exported meat consumers that the meat meets minimum export standards.

Apply online for permits

The LLPBN has automated all of its computer systems for services such as permits, ear tags and livestock brand applications. This means that producers can now apply for permits online, leading to improved efficiency and cost savings. The online system will be launched on 1 November 2024. The LLBPN is currently training potential users for the new system.

Customer satisfaction survey

On an annual basis, the FAN Meat division conducts a customer satisfaction survey in order to make sure we meet producer expectations. The Survey started on 1 September 2024 and will run until 31 December 2024. To complete the survey, follow the link. The completed survey form can be returned via email:
