Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT), in collaboration with the Support Ulm e.V. donated medical equipment to the value of N$1.2 Million to the Katutura State Hospital (14 March 2018).
The equipment, consisting of 140 wheel chairs, 8 nursing wheelchairs, 40 walking frames 60 commode chairs, 30 hospital beds with mattresses, 7 pallets of baby swaddle pads and various other much needed items.
This donation comes at a time when the public health sector is struggling with resources. At this occasion, some people with disabilities already benefited from the donation. Some wheelchairs have been dispatched to Kunene for distribution to people with disabilities in that region.
“We hope that this equipment will go a long way in reaching the needy. Were we can, OOCT, together with Support Ulm e.V, will continue to assist the MOHSS in their quest to elevate the standard of service delivery in public health sector, and more prominently at state health facilities,” said Esther Mbathera Ohorongo Cement’s P.R. and Communication Manager who handed over the equipment to the ministry on behalf of OOCT/Support Ulm e.V.
Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Hon. Julieta Kavetuna, received the equipment on behalf of the ministry, and dedicated the majority of the equipment to the Katutura State Hospital. She is hopeful that the donation will alleviate the patient bed shortage at the hospital, which has
been a huge headache for the Ministry.
“I would like to thank Support Ulm e.V., an unwavering partner to MOHSS, who is always thinking of the Namibian people thousands of kilometers away. Not only do they collect medical equipment for us, but they also raise funds to assist us to equip our health facilities in Namibia. They are indeed friends in all weather,” Hon. Kavetuna said.
This donation follows a similar contribution made to different hospitals throughout the country during the past eight years, which is as a result of a Technical Cooperation Agreement between Support Ulm e.V., OOCT and the Ministry of Health and Social Services, to deliver medical equipment and exchange of medical professionals, as prioritized by the Ministry.
